Surah Al-Fatihah, also known as “The Opening,” is the first chapter of the Quran and holds a place of immense significance in Islamic worship and daily life. Comprising seven verses, it is both a prayer for guidance and an expression of praise and gratitude to Allah. The surah begins by acknowledging Allah as the Lord of all worlds, the Most Merciful, and the Master of the Day of Judgment. It then asks for guidance on the straight path, the path of those who have received Allah’s blessings, and seeks protection from the path of those who have gone astray or earned His wrath. Al-Fatihah is recited in every unit of the Muslim prayer (Salah), highlighting its central role in the believer’s connection with God. It encapsulates themes of monotheism, mercy, guidance, and submission to the will of Allah.
